At her first meeting, her message centered around the "Broken Windows Theory." She emphasized that small petty things can cause a big effect. She is working to make sure that there are no broken windows on campus starting with the dress code and electronic use. She will enforce lockout policy as well.
Some information on Broken Window Theory:
"The broken windows theory is a criminological theory of the norm-setting and signaling effect of urban disorder and vandalism on additional crime and anti-social behavior. The theory states that maintaining and monitoring urban environments in a well-ordered condition may stop further vandalism and escalation into more serious crime. The theory was introduced in a 1982 article by social scientists James Q. Wilson and George L. Kelling. Since then it has been subject to great debate both within the social sciences and in the public sphere. The theory has been used as a motivation for several reforms in criminal policy."
She also added students are volunteers and that we need to make them want to learn. She also added, students learn what we do, not what we say.
I am so excited to find some stability at school. I am looking forward to an improved school environment for students and staff.
