This is a great photo. Amy and Cea are really working hard to increase their science skills and therefore increase their students science skills in biotechnology. Way to go teachers! Baldwin High School is lucky to have you both.

Thanks Nancy! We have also been lucky to have you with us at BHS. AND we have all been lucky (at least the four of us!) to participate in this professional development program!

This photo was taken during the session we worked on Luciferase and Bradford assays. During this session we also had the "Meet the Scientist" talk with Dr. Angel Yanagihara. Boy, she is really a pioneer in her work! Very inspiring! She even runs her own lab: Pacific Cnidaria Research Lab. How cool is that? I kept thinking that my son, Jonah, would love going on those night dives with her to collect specimen! Maybe one of these days..... he's only 14, after all! I was fascinated to learn that the hemolysin venom from the Hawaiian box jellyfish is waaaaay stronger on humans than on fish. Guess we haven't been out there in the ocean to develop any defenses.....

This was also the session we met two new CCR personnel: Dr. Drew MacCannell and Dr. Chad Walton. Enjoyed working with them - kinda quirky in good ways! :-)
