PD: CCSS protocol 2

Jan 16 & 17, 2013

Sadly, I missed protocol 1.  I am usually never sick during the school year but it happened last year.  :-(

Well, I was able to attend protocol 2, however.  My motto for PD session "get at least one thing out of each PD session."  Well, I learned to write the code for each of the standards so I rewrote them and emailed them to our dept.

Day 1:  We review what formative assessment is....  One thing I need to focus on is what it means for the students.  I think I have a pretty good grasp on what it is for teachers.  However, I need to make sure that students understand what they are learning and why.  I don't want to make the time to post them if it means nothing to them.  I really want my teaching to be effective and students' learning to be meaningful and productive.

Day 2:  We reviewed text complexity (see old notes on it).  I guess it's important since we have to choose them to be use in our classes in fulling CCSS Reading Standards but how do we find the time unless we are on a break or on a PD pull out session?  I guess maybe it can be done as a department - pick a few articles or books and we all work on grading its text complexity.

We also were presented with CCSS appendices.  I did not see any useful material in it.  I do still need to look at the end of appendix C, though.
