1st day of school - school year 2013-2014

We started with this year off with this key word,  "Culture."  Mrs. Kilborn thought it through and came up with the problem and solution in one word.   The culture at our school needs a change but as greatest obstacle, I see, disbelief.  In order for a movement to work, the people in it must believe.  Without belief, it does not work.

Personally, it starts with our habit changes.  Maybe it starts (or started already) with going to meeting on time, following through with school rules, and being more aware of our students learning progress (EES).  Slowly but surely (and hopefully) the culture on our campus will change from one that's full of cliques to one that's professional and one that's ready to come out of its comfort zone to improve.  I am hopeful and I know that it has to start with me.

Thanks, Amy, for the reminder of the power of believing. As a result of Ms. Kilborn's summary of "CULTURE" as the problem AND solution at BHS, AND Amy's suggestion of developing good habits, "The Power of Habit" by Charles Duhigg became the BHS science department book for the year. :-)
