This
year is our fourth year competing at Science Olympiad. I am in charge of coordinating and coaching
as the head coach for the team. It has been difficult due to the fact that I do
not have any of the students in my classes.
This year it was especially difficult with a smallest number of participants
turn out ever. Only eight on the
team.
Everyone competed in at least two
events. We took 3rd out of
four teams and decided not to compete at the State level knowing that most of
the team members will have another chance next year. I will be traveling to Arizona this summer to
be trained at Science Olympiad Summer Coach Camp and will be teaching AP
Biology next school year which means more of the participants will be in my
class.
Another exciting news regarding Science Olympiad is that I was able to
network with Mrs. Nassar, who will be coaching an elementary level science
Olympiad team from Wailuku Elementary School.
I was able to supply her with some science supplies needed. I plan to work with the elementary team to
raise awareness of the competition.
