Maui Stem PLC - APPLE TOUR

Time:  3pm - 6pm
Place:  Maui Waena School

Objective: Learn how Mac and iPad can enhance STEM teaching STEM workshop – APPLE Learning Tour (iPad in classroom)

APPLE TV – new (does not have to be on network), can be connected to computer and iPad. 

Math Apps
·      Fluid app – graph a function (possibly use it to show the rate and slope relationship)

·      Fluid Graph – figures out the function (possibly graph then calculate the rate/slope for you to compare rates at different conditions)

Science Apps
·      Pocket Anatomy – good for human anatomy class ~$20
·      Elements in Action – companion to Element App (video)
·      StarWalk Kids – great space education (elementary)
·     
     Proscope – great for outdoors (wirelessly connected to iPad) however, iPad needs to be reconfigured which means cannot be connected to the APPLE TV at the same time.  Another possibility – exoscope (going out of business)

APP store (iTunes) search for education -“For the classroom” or look for Apps and content categorized by grade level.

Life on Earth by E.O. Wilson – biology textbook online  (free)

Students can write a book online using iBook’s author and publish to iTune store.  Example:  invertebrates, cell signaling - $2.99
One best thing -  apple educators.

This was a great experience.  I am ready use some of the materials discussed
